Source – an interactive sculpture

Source is a fantasy of transfiguring elements, transforming the material without touching it, influencing the world in the ultimate point of its physical materiality.
So it is about of sculpturing the water of a fountain, of transforming our relationship to its substance, of manipulating it beyond its appearances, like a magician.
The act of sculpting water gives consistency to reality, where forms reflect strengths in perpetual movement. Thanks to interactivity, the metamorphosis becomes tangible, sensitive, immediate.
Thus, it is about revealing a sensitive unity, which would crystallise the intention of our gestures. Water establishes a whole aesthetic materiality.

By approaching the fountain, placed in a kiosk, we begin to hear a humming, a soft light illuminates the fluid : it’s an object of contemplation and creation.
The movements of the water follow the gestures of the audience, to accompany emotionaly and poeticaly our relationship to the artwork. The audience (re)discovers then the essence of the fluid, discovers its new properties, composes, experiments, creates.
Every sculptor models a global nature, made up of water, light and sound.

SOURCE was elaborated thanks to a consortium between :

  • the collective Les Yeux d’Argos
  • the research MINT team (research laboratory INRIA ; National Center of Scientific Research ; University of Science of Lille)
  • the firm of fountain-makers ATLANTID
